Q5. What do I do if I suffer a loss and want to file a claim?
The following is a list of common mistakes customers make where claims are concerned:
Waiting too long to report a loss- It is your responsibility to report damage as soon as is reasonably possible. We have had customers wait months, even a year or more, before filing a claim. This seldom leads to a satisfactory end.
Making repairs before meeting with an adjustor- Make only those repairs necessary to prevent further damage. If you have to remove damaged material, such as wet carpet, do not dispose of the material until after the adjustor has seen it.
Refusing to make repairs until funds have been received from the insurance company- Once the adjustor has inspected the damage, it is your responsibility to make repairs to prevent further damage, even if you have not yet received the settlement funds from the insuring company.
Giving untrue information when submitting a claim- Providing untrue information concerning a claim could lead to a denial of benefits, or even criminal prosecution.
**Some companies will allow you to file a claim directly with them:
If you would like help in filing your claim, call the agency and we will be happy to assist you.
Once your claim has been submitted, an adjustor will contact you and make arrangements to inspect the damage and take your statement. He will let you know when it is okay to make repairs and instruct you on the steps you need to take to get your claim settled.
